The OUTBOUND Handy Cooker is a compact solid-fuel stove designed for outdoor cooking where a simple, portable heat source is required. Supplied with fuel tablets, it provides a convenient way to heat food or boil water without relying on gas canisters or a conventional camp stove. Small folding solid-fuel cookers have a long association with military field equipment. During the First World War, British soldiers carried small folding solid-fuel stoves commonly known as “Tommy Cookers”, using them to heat rations and prepare simple meals in the field. Later hexamine-fuel cookers continued this tradition; the National Army Museum records a British military hexamine cooker from around 1958 that was used on jungle patrols because of its light weight and minimal smoke, with soldiers using it to heat ration tins. The OUTBOUND Handy Cooker follows this same general compact solid-fuel stove concept for civilian outdoor use.
