History
The clip is associated with the ALICE (All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment) load-carrying system developed for the United States military. ALICE was formally adopted as US Army Standard A on 17 January 1973, following development through the LINCLOE programme. It replaced the earlier M-1956 and M-1967 load-carrying equipment systems and became a defining US military field-equipment system of the Cold War era.
The ALICE system was designed around modular components that could be configured for different loads and field requirements. Its simple attachment hardware helped make individual pouches and accessories readily configurable on the load-bearing belt and associated equipment.
