Heavy Duty Malaysian Flag (Large) 5'x3' by OUTBOUND
The OUTBOUND Heavy Duty Malaysian Flag is a large-format representation of Malaysia's national flag, known as the Jalur Gemilang or “Stripes of Glory”. It features 14 alternating red and white horizontal stripes, together with a dark blue canton containing a yellow crescent and 14-point star. Measuring 150 cm x 90 cm, it provides a clear and recognisable display for Malaysian cultural events, community functions, educational settings, sporting occasions and national flag collections.
The Malaysian flag developed from the flag of the Federation of Malaya. A national design competition was held in 1949, with the winning design created by Mohamed Hamzah, an architect with the Johor Public Works Department. The design was subsequently modified, including changing the crescent and star from white to yellow to represent the royal colour. The flag was first officially flown in May 1950.
When Malaysia was formed on 16 September 1963, the design was changed from 11 stripes and an 11-point star to 14 stripes and a 14-point star. These represent the equal membership of the 13 Malaysian states and the Federal Government. Although Singapore subsequently left the federation in 1965, the 14 stripes and 14-point star were retained. The flag was given the name Jalur Gemilang in 1997.
The dark blue canton represents unity, while the yellow crescent represents Islam and the 14-point star represents the unity of the states and Federal Government. Malaysian government sources also associate red with courage and white with purity.
