About the Steel
The Fossekallen uses Helle's triple laminated stainless steel construction. Helle's proprietary stainless laminate, known as H3LS (Helle Triple Laminate Stainless), combines a highly corrosion-resistant 304 stainless outer layer with a high-carbon core developed from Helle's long-established family recipe. According to Helle, the outer layer provides flexibility and resistance to rust, while the high-carbon core is designed to take a very sharp edge and provide high toughness. The laminated construction therefore combines different steel characteristics within the blade, giving the knife a balance of edge performance, durability and corrosion resistance. Helle lists H3LS as primarily used for traditional stick-tang, high-polish and carving knives.
