Designed by T.J. Schwarz, the C.R.K.T. Tailbone is a compact fixed-blade knife with an unconventional handle designed to combine flexibility for a comfortable hold with rigidity during cutting. Its lightweight construction and included sheath make it a practical option for outdoor equipment kits and compact knife carry.
The Tailbone features a plain-edge blade made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, with a stonewashed finish that gives it a subdued, textured appearance. Grooves on the blade provide additional contact points to help with control during cutting tasks, while the high-carbon stainless steel is designed to be straightforward to sharpen.
The distinctive handle uses a machine-chain construction wrapped in cord. This articulated design conforms to the hand while remaining rigid during cutting, providing a different feel from conventional solid knife handles. A thermoplastic sheath protects the blade when it is stored, and the included nylon cord provides an additional attachment option.
